Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about renting a musical instrument?
Here’s a list of the most common questions with answers!
Should I do a rent-to-own or should I do a flat-rate rental?
Our rent-to-own programs are an affordable path to ownership and 100% of the rental payments go towards the purchase. Rent-to-own band instruments are brand new Yamaha instruments. Our single-pay rentals are a great value with certified pre-owned Yamaha Band and Eastman String instruments, but require a bigger up-front cost and don’t provide any equity.
Do I get a new violin, viola, or cello when I rent-to-own?
Unlike with band instruments, orchestral instruments vary in size based on a students physical size. It’s common for orchestra students to exchange their instruments for larger sizes every year or two. Fractional sized instruments are not usually new. When your child is ready for a full-size instrument you can apply 100% of your rental payments towards the purchase of a new full-size string instrument.
What if my child needs to switch the instrument they play?
Our rental programs allow you to switch to instruments of the same price category at any time. If your child is changing to an instrument in a more expensive price category, you will have to pay the difference between the two. If you are on a rent-to-own plan, we cannot guarantee a new instrument when switching. However, we can use the rental equity towards the purchase of a new instrument.
How do I request service if there is ever a problem with an instrument?
You can call, email, chat, or stop in one of our stores! We can arrange to pick-up an instrument at your child’s school for any service or repair.
Should I rent or should I purchase?
Many parents will rent for at least the first year. If you are confident your child will remain in a music program, purchasing is always the most cost-effective option in the long-run. Can I buy my single-pay rental instrument at some point?
In short, no. There is no buy-out option for any of our rent-to-rent programs. On occasion we may have promotional opportunities to purchase the rental. If you are looking for a path to ownership, you should consider our rent-to-own programs.
What is covered with the included damage protection?
Just about everything. The only exclusions are blatant intentional damage (i.e. a vandalized instrument), mouthpieces, and included accessories such as drum sticks, reeds, neck straps, lubricants, etc. Please see your contract for details.
What if I need a larger string instrument?
Size upgrades are included! Just let us know and we’ll get it swapped out for you!
What if a string breaks on a string instrument?
Our rental programs include free string replacements!
What if I need to cancel my rental reservation?
Rental agreements cancelled prior to delivery or pick-up are eligible for a 100% refund. Rent-to-own instruments can be returned at any time with no additional obligation. Rent-to-rent instruments are non-refundable once the school year is underway.
